The edition number, title, signature and date are written under the image in pencil.

This is an original collagraph print depicting the spectacular Nohoch Mul pyramid which stands within the ruined Mayan city of Coba. The precipitous steps rise before you while the foreground is filled with the dappled shade of the surrounding jungle.

A collagraph plate is made by building up the image with texture and collage. Ink is then applied by hand before the plate is passed through an etching press with dampened paper. This method produces not only vibrantly coloured images but also an embossed effect on the paper.

The hand made nature of the process, and the fact that the plate is inked up from scratch each time, means that every print will be unique; the images above are examples and your print might not be identical to the ones shown here. It will be delivered to you unframed for safe shipping. It will be backed by card and wrapped in cellophane and carefully protected with tissue paper and stiff cardboard.

This image comes from a marvellous trip to Mexico in early 2017, our second time in the area. We spent several hours in the ruined city of Coba which lies within dense forest. It covers such an enormous area that rattling cycle taxis transport visitors around the dirt tracks (at alarming speeds) but we opted to stay on foot and take our time, soaking up the atmosphere.
