Love this

This is a large apple, (90mm diameter x 100mm high), that I turned from a piece of spalted beech that I have had in my wood store for several years. The wood was sourced by me from my local woods. The black lines and staining are created by the decay or spalting process. Once dry this process stops.
The apple was turned on my lathe and sanded to a 1000 grit sandpaper and then waxed to create a superb, very smooth tactile item. It has some of the natural pale beech colour along with several shades of brown. I purposely left in an area where a piece of wood broke off while turning, revealing some black spalting marks. This adds character to the apple.
Ideal to add to your wooden fruit collection - or to start one.
I do not buy in foreign exotic timbers, only wood grown in the UK or wood that is being recycled.

This was a piece taken from a ring of wood from a large felled tree. After a long life, the tree will live on and once again be a thing of beauty.
