Little terracotta handthrown pot for storing and striking matches. The pot was thrown off the hump on my potter's wheel in terracotta with course lines etched into the side to enable the lighting of matches.
Once dry the pot was fired to bisque and glazed on the rim with pale yellow lead-free glaze before firing once more.
I made this to solve a problem for a friend who often uses tealights and scented candles. She regularly misplaced the matches! I made her a pot similar to this one that she keeps on her mantelpiece.
