A handmade book that can be used for drawing, journaling and mixed media. It is filled with many different papers to add variety and give its author a different surface and texture to play with. The book has been made using traditional book binding techniques. The cover is made from authentic, good quality book cloth and the copper trimmings have all been handmade. The book measures 11.5x14.5x2.5cm. It includes an attached chord embellished with little handmade charms and a small copper hook to fasten the book together. This would make a perfect gift for anyone who likes drawing, painting, writing, journaling, poetry.. I could even imagine it being used as an alternative photo album or a quirky recipe book or a vintage style wedding book.
Empty books seem to have this incredible magnetism that makes you just want to hold them and possess them, fill it with stories of your life, images from your imagination, create a beautiful other world that can be kept and retained all within its pages, just waiting for its magic to be unleashed upon its next viewer. In today’s massed produced apocalypse, the art of making seems ever more prevalent among people who take pleasure in things that have been carefully crafted, laboured over and loved once already by their maker. I wanted to create something that is not only beautiful by itself, but something that can be added to and loved and cherished and immortalised, something that will last and maybe be passed down as an old heirloom one day.
