Simple in style but definitely for the evening or night this is a slightly padded almost square bag with both outer and lining of red crushed velvet.
The flap, which has no fastening is however deep and slanted and is decorated with a comet inspired pattern in white/silver cord.
The strap is a broad red cord closely matching the main fabric and attached as an additional trim to the full height of the bag before being finished at the base with a knot tassell.

My local haberdashery shop stocks only a small range of fabric but while I usually use recycled material I do like to support and buy there from time to time and recently some crushed velvet did catch my eye. Red of this vibrancy couldn't really be for daytime, but was obviously great for an evening bag. And as for the decoration. Well I have stashed away a red and white buckle, of the 1920's or 30's shaped in a comet design that came to mind. And with a little adaptation that seemed to happily match the after dark effec t I wanted.
