This is a hand chiselled, relief carving of a plump little mouse feeding on corn. The plaque has been carved in a recycled piece of Spalted Ash. A rare grain effect that gives the wood beautiful colour and grain patterns. It is finished I a Danish finishing oil to bring out the grain detail.
The plaque measures 24 cm in diameter and is 4 cm deep.
It was a cold and wet March in Wales so my thoughts while in the workshop were on the warm dry days of August and September. A very popular theme in my love spoons are little mice eating corn. I get many requests for them. So, while I was spring cleaning my work shop wood store I saw this piece of wood. The wood is a rare Spalted Ash. The colours exactly suited my mood, thinking or warm early days of Autumn (fall) I also noticed the remains of a field mouse nest among the off cuts and saw dust in a corner. I have had several small guests raise their families in safety in my workshop over the years so it just seemed right to carve a plump little chap making the most of the warm Autumn day.
