The three parts of this Sapele triptych are cut from a single piece of wood. Each piece was turned from a 10"x10" square of 2" thick sawn timber. The resulting forms have been polished to a smooth curving finish.

The triptych is intended to be enjoyed in use or to be displayed on a surface or mounted on a wall.

I was inspired by the idea of creating ripples in a pond, both as an image and as a metaphor. I am fascinated by how such meanings are conveyed, knowingly or not, by techniques that we may use in work and play.

I started by considering the simple dip in a almost flat surface that appears moments after a drip has hit a flat surface of liquid. I then explored how additional "waves" could be introduced into the forms of the triptych as it emerged. The piece is an exploration of philosophy, method and form, each vying for attention at different moments in the design process and demanding resolution to allow progression.
