We're raising funds to help Dorsen, Richard & children like them to escape the cobalt mines in DR Congo. Cobalt is contained in rechargeable batteries. The cobalt in your smartphone may have been mined by Dorsen and Richard.

Cobalt children work 12 hours a day for as little as 8p or 10 cents. They often go hungry. The registered charity, Kimbilio, in Lubumbashi, DR Congo, supports children escaping from the mines and streets.

You can pay what you want for this item. Simply adjust the price in PayPal. You choose how many meals you would like to buy. 100% is donated to support Dorsen, Richard and children like them.

It’s made of cotton and is lined twice: one layer of soft fleece for padding, and a pretty cotton interior lining. It fastens with a loop and button.

If you buy this, THANK YOU. Your purchase helps transform children’s lives. We are campaigning. We believe corporates, who have profited from these children, should help them. Amnesty International agrees.

On 27 February 2017, I watched Alex Crawford’s Sky News report: Meet Dorsen who mines cobalt to make your smartphone work. It changed my life. Watch the film:

Dorsen, aged 8, was filmed with his friend, Richard, 11. They were having a nightmare day by our standards, but it was just a normal day for them. They were wet, cold, exhausted, hungry, in pain, threatened and suffering.

I had no idea that the rechargeable battery in my smartphone and camera contained cobalt that could have been mined by a child. Most cobalt is mined in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There are laws to protect workers and children, but they are not enforced. Companies (Apple, Samsung, Daimler, Volkswagen, for example) buy cobalt from Chinese co., Huayou Cobalt, who trade with agents, who buy cobalt mined by artisanal miners and children – and that’s how it ends up in the prestigious products we buy.

I want to help these children. You can help them too.
