I made this zipped pouch out of a recycled Obi sash which originally came from Vancouver. It is a zingy bright yellow heavy satin fabric with a pattern of yellow, red, and white squares. It fastens with a plain white zip and is lined with waterproof fabric from a gazebo which previously did good service for Handmade in Hammersmith at markets but collapsed during a particularly windy storm and is now enjoying a second life as waterproof linings for pouches and wash bags.
You can use this pouch for loads of different things. I use mine to bring some sort of order to all the flotsam and jetsam that swills around in the bottom of my bag. Make-up, odd coins, cards and travel passes etc. Because of the waterproof lining it would make an excellent make-up bag, or - if you are really efficient and tidy with little bottles and tubes - a perfect weekend / city break pouch for toiletries.
Because each of my pouches started as something else (a wool kilt, a tweed jacket, a cotton shirt) they come with a unique numbered card that shows what they used to be, and where they came from – a sort of pouch birth certificate.
All fabrics are thoroughly washed before being reconstructed, and this pouch is machine washable on a wool setting.
approx. 18 cm wide by 13 cm high

Handmade in Hammersmith Pouch no. 431
My Aunt Violet lives in Vancouver and spends a great deal of time foraging for interesting things in the local charity shops. She sent me this beautiful obi sash recently - I like that the yellow is so bright you will NEVER lose it at the bottom of a dark and crowded bag.
