The Manx Loaghtan sheep that provided the fibre for this product are raised on a smallholding set in a quiet river valley between the Brecon Beacons and the Eppynt Mountains in Mid Wales (see the photo above)
Manx Loaghtan sheep are a breed of small primitive sheep native to the Isle of Man, off the north-western coast of the UK mainland. The breed was popular and successful on the island until the 18th century. However, by the 1950s, numbers of sheep in the breed had declined to a very low point. Although numbers have steadily increased through the work of enthusiasts around the UK, the breed remains one of those on the watch list of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
Yarnarchism fibres have been designed to provide a wonderful spinning experience, but would also be gorgeous if used for felted designs or as accents in weaving. All dyeing is done in a smoke-free, pet-free studio using professional grade acid dyes. I do my utmost to run my dyeing studio in an environmentally-friendly manner and to source all materials as locally as possible.
