An elegant farmhouse style jug, with handle, neck and inside glazed in a white celadon glaze, which is translucent so that subtle throwing rings show through. The main body of the jug on the outside surface is unglazed, showing just the raw clay. It is food and liquid safe and also dishwasher safe, though hand washing is advisable.
I threw this jug on my pottery wheel, using a toasted stoneware clay that fires to a creamy buff sandstone colour. After attaching its handle (pulled from the same clay) I bisque fired the jug to 1040c before glazing and firing again to 1220c.
5.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide at the neck, it holds approximately 400mls of liquid (technically holds more than that but the 'pour' of water is messy if filled beyond the bottom of the jug's 'pouring lip', ie. water spills down the front of the jug. Up to 400mls, though, and it pours perfectly.
Slight glaze defect on bottom of the jug's inside (see photo). Still a worthy addition to any household collection, though I say so myself!
I was inspired by rustic farmhouse style pottery, which makes use of minimal glazing and often displays raw clay.
