Made from fallen Ash this bowl measures 210 mm in diameter by 125 mm high with a bees wax finish.
This highly figured item has 'spalting' caused by a disease attacking the tree. It has part of the bark remaining, stunning grain patterns with cracks and natural defects. All wood chippings produced while making this item are recycled by converting into wood and paper briquettes for household burning.
IF YOU HAVE A PIECE OF WOOD from a special place or are removing a tree from your garden why not have it made into something that will bring memories flooding back.
Please contact me to discuss specification and cost if you would like me to produce a bowl or tealight holder from your own wood.
This bowl is made from an ancient 380 year old ash tree that fell in the grounds of a local castle. The timber has been left to season for over 10 years and is now transformed from ancient log to finished article over a two day period using traditional woodturning techniques. It is interesting to acknowledge the fact that the wood from which this bowl is made was alive at the same time and actually witnessed the sacking of the castle where it grew by Cromwell in 1646.
Please note that my turned wooden items rely for their effect by focusing on the grain, splits, defects and faults that occur naturally in reclaimed and fallen timber.
