Romantic, delicate and enchanting - I just love making these lovebirds! They're the perfect gift for the top of wedding cakes, for anniversaries, Valentine's Day, birthdays and everything sentimental and loving. Individually and completely hand built by me here on the lovely, peaceful Isle of Arran, each sculpture is unique for you.

If you look carefully you will see that each flower has five stamens and five petals - that's ten separate pieces of porcelain to make a single flower. I can see at least 25 flowers in this photo and there are many, many more all around the tree. It's a theme with many possible variations. Porcelain is a wonderful, challenging and difficult clay to work with. It's the only clay that I have ever found that allows me to work in such detail. After firing work in the kiln, the translucency and beauty of porcelain is there for all to see.

Are the birds boys or girls? There's a question. The tiny touches of blue and pink on their eyes give the game away! The tree with its leaves and flowers always stays completely white. The eye colours can always be changed to suit the occasion. Lovey-Dovey birds indeed!

When I was a small child, my mother had a porcelain bowl with a lid, which was smothered with fragile and beautiful flowers and leaves. I loved looking at it it, but definitely wasn't allowed to touch. So, I decided that one day I would make my own. I've had a life-long fascination with all things detailed and intricate. I haven't changed one little bit - as you can see!

I use my fingers plus scalpels and dentists' instruments alongside many other tiny tools. The raw porcelain feels soft and silky on my fingers, just like talcum powder. After I've fired it to 1253degC, it turns into the beautiful porcelain you see. And, although it appears so fragile, in reality it's much stronger than it looks. My childhood dreams and ambitions are coming true.
