This is a beautiful handmade quality wooden fountain pen dressed in "Drake" Yew. The comfortable shape in the hand is complemented by the wonderful natural feel and warmth of the wood with a traditional wax finish.

The pen is made from "Drake" Yew wood with Gun Metal coloured fittings.

All the wood in the "Drake" collection was grown at the family home of Sir Francis Drake, Buckland Abbey. Drake lived there on and off for 14 years and the estate remained in the Drake family for several generations.
The Yew has seasoned very well after drying for many years in an old barn at Buckland Abbey.

Features a medium nib and making use of standard international cartridges or and ink convertor, both of which are supplied with the pen. The pen will be shipped in the black velvet type case pictured and also has a small certificate giving details of the wood.
Yew timber is rich orange-brown in colour, closely grained and incredibly strong and durable (this is why old trees can remain standing with hollow trunks). Traditionally the wood was used to make long bows and tool handles.
All pens are handmade by me beginning with rough cut woods for the body. The body of the pen is turned on a lathe to the final shape as seen on each pen. The body is then sanded, sealed, polished and waxed to its final finish.
