An unframed A4 print of a watercolour painting of St Peters on the Wall at Bradwell on Sea. This is one of the earliest christian buildings in England. It was built on the site of a roman Fort in the 7th century. It is a lonely spot looking out across the salt marshes and estuary. It cannot have changed too much since Saxon times.
This little early christian church has always seemed the most perfectly peaceful place. It must be its solitary position on the Essex shore and the weight of history there. For many years in later years it was used as a barn and had a very large hole in its side wall, but now it is renovated inside and out. So even though there is really only the rectangular building and the weather to paint, it is an inspirational place.
