A large wooden box decorated with an under water scene, a hand embroidered sea horse, seaweed and a shell, small glass beads to represent the sand at the bottom of the sea and real cultured pearls add to the riches found in the sea. The embroidery is worked on a piece of hand painted reclaimed silk (from a 1980s wedding dress), the inside of the box is also lined with the painted silk, the box is painted with pearlescent acrylic paint, the embroidery is finished with gold wax. The box measures 28cm x 21cm x15cm.

The large size of the box gave me the opportunity to create an under water scene with the seahorse, seaweed and shell. The deconstruction of two pure silk wedding dresses provided me with lots of silk fabric, I decided to experiment with silk paints to create a watery back ground. I added gold wax around the edge of the embroidery to frame the image. The inside of the box is lined with the same hand painted silk. The outside of the box is painted with pearlescent turquoise and gold acrylic paint.
