Stained glass " love you to the moon and back " decoration on vintage glass. A symbol of true friendship and love, I always enjoy encounters on a New Moon, and have a little giggle when the points of the moon look so sharp that you could cut your finger on them!
This painted and fired stained glass "man in the moon" has a playful Venus, (the first star of the evening) made from a tiny jingle bell.
Glass measures approx 2" in diameter, plus hook, and dangling star ...
It took me years to see the face in the moon, then one day it just clicked!
I began looking into the mediaeval iconography of the man in the moon (or is it a woman in the moon?) after seeing an ancient scrap of glass in a window in a church in Norfolk ...
I hadn't realised that it was such an old tradition, and as a fabled devotee to the history of stained glass, I simply had to join in and continue it!
This little moon is one of a group of a dozen happy new moons with the first star, Venus, which appears in the evening sky, representd by a little metal jingle bell.
