This beautiful and delicate clay flower on its own clay plinth is a fantastic alternative to cut flowers. Making a wonderful Mother's day present this 'everlasting flower' will not wither and die! It is approximately 25cm tall and 12cm in diameter and it's widest point. Linda Southwell handmakes all of her sculptures, slab building the plinth base and then attaching a individual petals that have been individually hand rolled and pinched. She uses black clay that is fired to 1250 centigrade.

I love repetitive patterns in nature and although I don't copy anything directly, this piece was definitely inspired by artichokes and aeoneums. I am a very keen gardener and feel very inspired by nature and organic forms.
