This little piece of mindfulness art has been inspired by the science in a book about the microbiome by Ed Yong, meditation and learning about different levels of perspective.
In this painting, a little girl is exploring this universe. We can be big or small depending on your perspective. We are a world to trillions of microbes, or we could just be highly specialised brain cells communicating with each other. We might be the equivalent of a microbe or even a mitochondria for a life form we cannot even comprehend.
The image is printed using Epson Claria HD Photo ink on archival quality matte photographic paper. It's sold unframed, and posted in a card backed A4 envelope.
My digital paintings seem to almost create themselves from a combination of my mindfulness meditation practice, my self compassion practice, doodling, and reading texts on philosophy, neurobiology, psychology and poetry.
I have no formal training in drawing, painting or illustration and have only started drawing recently, mainly as a way to process the new experiences and information my mental health recovery path has brought my way.
