The semi-precious stone apatite belongs to the same family as aquamarine and emerald and comes in bright greens and blues with a glassy finish. I have dangled little chips of beryl on tiny headpins from these shaped and carved sterling silver rings, all of which was done by hand at my West Sussex workshop. This original design was inspired by Roman jewellery, which used simple shapes with irregular polished stones. These pretty earrings measure 55 mm or 2 1/8" in length and are packaged in a gift box These earrings have been hallmarked on the ear wires by the London Assay Office, including my personal maker's mark.
I spend a lot of time researching old styles of jewellery and often come across pictures of really ancient pieces. These earrings are loosely based on Roman styles of jewellery and I particularly enjoyed shaping the hoops from the silver with my ball pein hammer.
