Item details

Pair of handmade Dorset Button cufflinks in green pearl cotton thread. This lovely pair of Dorset crosswheel buttons have been created on 20mm brass rings using green cotton thread. The buttons have been attached to silver tone cufflink fittings to create the perfect, unique, unusual gift for a special man, and are presented in a black ribbed cufflink box.

As they are made of cotton, these cufflinks would make a perfect gift for a 2nd wedding anniversary.

The Dorset button industry began in the early 1600s in Shaftesbury, Dorset. The crosswheel style of button appeared around 1700 and became the most popular and famous design. Buttony became a very important cottage industry in Dorset throughout the 18th century, and continued until 1851 when a new button making machine displayed at the Great Exhibition caused the hand made industry to collapse almost overnight.
