An embroidered bag stitched from a vintage tea cosy cover, combined with new and similar embroidery in matching threads, resulting in a very special design.
An embroidered section of a vintage tea cosy cover was chosen for the flap of this bag. The front of the bag was cut from a piece of toning vintage cotton and embellished with hand-embroidery to match the flap. The back panel and gusset of the bag have been cut from a recycled, printed cotton fabric in shades of blue, lilac and white. A grey and pastel print fabric, recycled from a summer skirt, has been used for the lining.
All panels of the bag, and all corresponding lining pieces, have been backed by fusible interfacing. Each panel was then blanket-stitched to its corresponding backing/lining, using pink crochet cotton. The bag was assembled by over-sewing the seams through the blanket stitching - using the same pink thread. A button hole stitch loop over a vintage button closes the bag. The strap is a length of hand-made cord which has been produced in un-bleached cotton ( using a lucet).
