I've just added stoneware (high fired) buttons to my shop. I'd be really interested to know what you think!
Handmade tin-glaze buttons, terracotta clay with manganese brush-painted decoration. Tin glaze (also known as delft or majolica) dates back to the 11th c. Italy and became popular in 17th c. England as the closest we could get to Chinese porcelain. My buttons are a contemporary take on this centuries-old tradition.
Hand and machine-washable but I recommend you pop your buttoned item into a pillow case before using the washing machine, just to be sure.
Size 27mm dia (approx). Please note that each button is individually made and therefore may slightly differ in size and shape.
I started making buttons as part of a series of quilt-inspired pieces called 'Tethered Quilts' and then started using them to adorn cushions, tea cosies and clothes. I thought other people might like to use them too!
