Our boards are very much pieces in flux. Our woods are not subjected to fast drying techniques, and inevitably this means that our pieces will change over time as they adapt to the temperature variations and moisture fluctuations in your home. We think that this adds charm and interest to our pieces and we anticipate no detriment to their performance and beauty. Expect some movement to surfaces and a degree of shape-shift as knots and burrs continue their seasoning process. Please note that although our boards are robust, they are not sold as chopping boards. All of our pieces wipe clean after use, ideally with damp kitchen paper, and are best left to air-dry. We advise the occasional application of some food safe oil on the surface of your board to enhance appearance and protect the integrity of the wood. Some foods, especially dark fruits like raspberries, ripe strawberries and cherries may leave surface marks on your board. After wiping and allowing your board to dry, a very light sanding and a little food safe oil will remove them.
We provide care-kits with all of our food safe pieces. This gives you some fine-grit sand paper, a sample of food safe oil with product details and a care information sheet.

What a beautiful and dramatic piece this is. At 60 inches long and 10 inches wide this lovely rip cut yew plinth creates a stunning focal point for your table.
Rip cut wood, that is wood that has been cut down the grain, is a timber cut that liberates delightful natural grain expressions and contours. In this plinth they swirl and sweep in rich hues of honey gold and warm caramel down its whole length, and contrast beautifully with natural deep dark inclusions and the creamy butterscotch of the waney edged sap wood.
At 7 kgs this long-sweep plinth needs to be prepared in situ: it's simply too heavy to carry fully laden, but imagine the impact it creates! I've pictured this gorgeous plinth dressed for a wedding with golden tea light holders and charming little ceramic hearts and it would also make the perfect base for your wedding cake or pretty cupcakes. When it's not gracing the bride and groom's table it also looks elegant and stylish dressed for a fabulous rustic supper, resplendent with cheeses, pate, rich fruit cake, charcuterie, grapes, nuts and olives.
After use this plinth can be simply wiped clean, ideally with a piece of slightly damp kitchen paper. And when it's not on duty as a food server this plinth looks gorgeous on your table dressed with little more than candle sticks, frames photographs or floral displays.
The inspiration for a wedding plinth came when we found some delightful rip cut waney edged yew. Yew is a light, bright and stunningly contoured wood with creamy sap wood contrasting beautifully with the deep chocolates and warm butterscotch of the heart wood. At 60 inches long this piece [and its two equally beautiful sister pieces] is both eye catching and elegant. We were initially thinking of cutting this into three smaller cheeseboards, but after Nick had done his first sand he was blown away by the beauty of the emerging grain, and the idea for larger wedding table centres was born. The grain contouring and inclusion patterning is a delight and brings a real sense of occasion to a table.
