This quirky clock is made from an original Victorian edition of King Henry VI (part two) published in 1889. The cover design incorporates the book series name Cassell's National Library (the publisher is Cassell & Company) in black on a deep read cloth. The book title is in gilt lettering.
Made using a sweep movement this does not tick like a regular clock. Instead the second hand moves smoothly around the clock face. Clocks run on a single AA battery (sorry this is not supplied with your clock as postal regulations restrict this and I have been unable to source individually packaged batteries in order to comply).
The clock is designed to be hung on a wall but also comes with a folding stand which enables it to be stood on a shelf if you prefer.
This book/clock measures approximately 10cm x14.5cm.
Items from The Forgotten Library are created by repurposing vintage books and ephemera or using these as inspiration to create something new and a little bit different. They make lovely gifts for book lovers and those who appreciate something unusual.
I have been making clocks using the Beatrix Potter books for a number of years and they are always popular because of their neat size. When I saw a handful of these beautiful Victorian Shakespeare volumes on sale I knew I had to buy them and try and make something similarly neat for those who appreciate the bard but not have much wall/shelf space.
