A copper and silver, heart shaped pendant. This piece uses a heavier piece of silver wire than usual. A single piece of thick wire diagonally across the heart like an arrow.
The pendant measures approximately 4cm at it's longest measurement, and 2.5cm at it's widest point.
It hangs by a copper jump ring from an adjustable, natural leather cord, fastened with two running knots, allowing the length to change from around 60cms to as short as you like.
The wire is fused to the copper heart shape by playing a blowtorch over them until the silver begins to melt and so fixes itself onto the copper.
This is rather an unpredictable technique, and I'm always pleased if I get something close to what I intended.
Another of my experiments in fusing metals together. I actually started by fusing copper wire onto brass, cheaper than silver. After reading a description of using fused silver wire to make jewellery I wondered if silver would fuse to other metals. I've been very pleased with the results so far. I've got bolder and the designs are simpler now, I started with quite complex twisted wire shapes but I prefer these simple designs with one or two pieces of wire making a simple statement.
