My most recent conceptual collections 'OBJECT[IFICATION]' and 'Beautiful Demolition Series' consist of unique and diverse, hand manipulated slip-cast porcelain and bone china vessels.
This large conceptual bone china vessel portrays a feminine sculpted bum form. The piece was inspired by a woman who dislikes her body, she feels and believes her body is not what people in today's society would consider to be 'ideal' body. The surgical clips attached to the form are to represent surgeries people go through to have the 'ideal' body.
The large scale mould produced held 58litres of bone china slip and each cast used approximately 5litres of slip. This piece is the largest and most successful cast produced. To demonstrate its true scale, this piece has been low-fired to 1080° and sanded to expose the clays smooth aesthetic.

Sociocultural standards of feminine beauty are presented in almost all forms of popular media, influencing women with images that portray what is considered to be the ‘ideal’ body. These unattainable standards of beauty promoted in the media can have a powerful influence on the way women view themselves. The pervasiveness of the media and advertising make it very challenging for most women to avoid, resulting in a large amount of women evaluating themselves against these standards of beauty and also competing with each other, to look how society would class them beautiful.
