This platter is turned from some well seasoned Maple. I marked out the lines geometrically and then carved them using a small angle grinder. Next i painted the whole surface using red acrylic paint. then using a flat sponge brush and black acrylic paint touching the edges of the grooves. A few coats of lacquer to the painted rim and osmo oil on the newly turned out bowl part gives a nice transition from the shiny to matt finish. Approximately 305mm x 40mm
Maple is a lovely cream coloured wood but can be a little bland so this was the reason i decided to enhance its beauty a bit. I enjoyed marking the lines out using my knowledge from school days. Turning out the bowl part shows just enough of what the piece is actually made of.
