British and Handmade. I love to see what lies inside the wood, come inside and see what I mean ?
A satisfyingly chunky wooden pot for pens or pencils, turned from a pieces of a recycled school refectory Oak table top which I have glued together and then turned. This means it has a varied grain pattern. The pot stands 124mm tall with an internal height of 78mm, the difference being solid wood. At the widest point of the curve it is about 81mm in diameter, and is finished inside with beeswax. I have added the bark effect using a texturing tool and then finished outside with three coats of clear lacquer.
I decided to start this year off doing some of this laminated work and it has worked out quite well, there will be other pieces using the same technique soon. This would make a lovely gift for any home office or to keep a growing collection of colouring pens/pencils/brushes in, in line with the “Mindfulness” trend, which seeks to help ease stress, a subject I have been all too familiar with in the past. Or it would grace any dressing table as a pot to keep your make-up brushes in. [Please note that the colouring book and pens/pencils pictured are not included].
