Item details

This print is a traditionally made single colour woodblock print taken from an original drawing then carved out of wood.

These prints have been exhibited in Japan and UK galleries

It is printed with black ink onto cream Japanese fine quality hand made paper.

Using the traditional woodcut technique, the ink is hand rolled onto the carved plate and then rubbed through - (burnished) onto the paper.

Each print is unique and individual, due to the hand burnished process there are slight variations - no two are the same.

The wood block has been carved by myself.

The edition number of the print is on the bottom left, and on the bottom right it is signed next to the personalized red stamp carved out of marble with my logo.

The print is from an edition of 60

The image size is 95cm x 55cm with 2 to 3 cm to the deckled edge of the paper

The print will be rolled in acid free tissue paper and rolled into a study tube for postage

My inspiration is the natural world. I began a series of drawings based around trees and woodlands.
I was trying to capture fluctuations in light and I found this stand of trees in Warwickshire. I loved the sharp contrast of dark shapes against the backdrop of new morning light and did a series of drawings based upon this. This is one of the resulting prints.
