The night before Christmas is just that, Father Christmas has parked the sleigh on the garage rooftop, tramped across the roof ( footsteps clue) and jumped across the void between the house and the garage ( couple of reindeer are having a rest) climbed up to the chimney and vanished to deliver his presents to the occupants who live there.
It's that magical time when children believe that Father Christmas is coming, mince pie and a glass of beverage left out awaiting his arrival, and naturally it's snowing.
