I first read Great Expectations many years ago, and of all the characters in the novel it is Miss Havisham who has lived on most vividly in my imagination. The idea of someone waiting forever is so strong, it flips our romantic ideal that love conquers all. Whilst not quite covered in cobwebs, some part of us is sometimes on hold for whatever reason. Ms H should inspire us to shake it off as best we can and enjoy life.
