This listing is for a PDF KNITTING PATTERN for you to knit the hat shown. The actual pattern will be sent to you as an email attachment within 24 hours of receiving payment. It's quicker than by mail!

This hat has a warm, woven effect band which is worked separately and can be worn on its own as a headwarmer. The rest of the hat is worked in stocking stitch/stockinette. It can be worn to the back of the head with a bit of slouch, or pulled over to the side for a jaunty, beret look. The hat can be knitted using any Aran/worsted/10ply yarn which gives 200m per 100g (218 yards per 3 1/2 oz).

Sizes: It comes in six sizes to fit heads from 37-61cm (14.5-24 inches)

Gauge: 18sts /22 rows to 10cm (4ins) over stocking stitch/stockinette with 4.5mm (UK/US 7) needles.

You will need five double pointed needles or you can knit the main part of the hat using a 40cm circular needle and work the decreases with the double ended needles.

Skills Needed:
Provisional cast on (not essential but beneficial), seamed or 3 needle cast off/bind off (not essential but beneficial), knitting in the round using both circular and double pointed needles, knit stitches, cabled stitches, k1f&b increases, ssk decreases, picking up and knitting stitches from a border.

This hat was designed for my mum, to match her red coat. She wanted a beret, but the lack of brim it wouldn't keep the wind off her forehead. She didn't like toque styles or bobble style hats but eventually, I got this one "just right"!
