From 22nd October to 24th October I have a stall at a craft fair in Goathland Village Hall. To avoid attempting to sell the same item twice i will be closing the shop each day. I hope to reopen it each evening. If there is an item you are particularly interested in while the shop is closed then let me know so I can 'put it aside and wait for you to get back to me (if it is still available).
This dish is 86mm in diameter, 18mm deep.
I have built up several base coats of clear enamel over which I have then laid a coat of green. This allows the copper base of the dish to show through in tones of golden brown. On the green coat I have scattered white, brown and purple enamel. The brown and the purple are transparent enamels; they need a white coat beneath them to allow the colours to show. I have then disturbed the scattered colours by drawing a steel tip through them while the dish was in the kiln at red hot, drawing out a unique random pattern in which the colors mingle. The enamel is not so molten it will flow easily and as it cools while I have the kiln door open it will set smooth but unevenly. This gives a degree of texture to the piece which adds an effect to the play of light on it.
