This is a life-size model of the Bronze Shieldbug, modelled for a collector of miniatures who also has a passion for these fascinating bugs. It is detailed on the underside as well as the top and measures 15mm from the head to the tip of the shield, or 20mm from the antennae to the tip of the shield.

Although modelled as an ornament, they make great eye-catching earrings. These stud earrings are mounted on sterling silver posts with secure stud backs, ensuring that the earring sit correctly on the ear. They are sterling silver and hallmarked.

While this shieldbug was modelled at the request of a collector of animal miniatures, shortly after completing it, I was rewarded for my efforts by a visit from the more common green shieldbug. While camping in Bodiam (Kent, UK), one dropped onto our tent and appeared in no hurry to leave, despite the close attentions of 3 admiring humans! What was fascinating was that when you placed a finger close to the shieldbug, it tipped its shield towards your finger by way of defence.
