An unframed A4 print of a watercolour by Anna Moore showing Common Terns fishing in the drains behind the seawall in the evening light. This site is near the Northey Island causeway in the Blackwater estuary, the site of the Battle of Maldon in 991 AD.
Sketches shown for information only
It was another of those stormy summer evenings, the Terns were patrolling the drain behind the sea wall for small prey, sometimes just hovering and sometimes swooping down into the water, like aerial acrobats. The sun was bursting through some very dark clouds lighting up the farm building in the distance. A sharp shower seemed certain any minute. I sat and sketched the scene quickly (see sketches) as the Terns also hurried to feed and beat the summer shower.
