This linocut shows a pair of sea horses in deep Aqua colour in a beautiful illustration from a design that I created for a wedding invite recently.

The shape of the print is unusual, and is carved in fine detail. It is appx 19 cm X 19 cm and has a generous margin for framing. It should fit standard frames from John Lewis or IKEA.

I print only using steadfast oil based Caligo inks, on archival printing paper, which in this case is smooth Zerkall 140 GSM paper so is light weight and gives a unique velvety smooth finish to the print. I first sketch the design, and then transfer it to a Lino, which I then carve using various carving tools. I use quite fine tools to bring out the little details. Once this is completed, I mix the inks, and ink the plate by hand using a roller, and print it either by handburnishing or with my press in my home studio.

Each time a print in an edition has to be made, this process has to be repeated, and so there would be always slight variations between the different prints in an edition, due to its handmade nature, making any piece that you buy to be unique and personal to you, unlike a digital print. Due to the handcarved nature, there can be very fine textural marks around the main image too, which highlights the handmade nature and is unique to a Linoprint.
