This Lillyblossom sewing guide will show you how to make a stylish, practical, pleated tote bag. The perfect size for shopping, travelling or sunny days on the beach.
The bag is fully lined, with long shoulder handles and it has a gusseted base.
It measures approximately 15” (38cms) wide x 16” (40cms) high x 4” (10cm) deep at the base, excluding the handles. The pattern has measurements in both inches and centimetres.
The design uses two coordinating fabrics one for the outside and handles and one for the pleated panels and lining. It’s a great way to mix and match your favourite fabrics. I have used a good weight cotton furnishing fabric, the type you may use for curtains. You could also use denim, corduroy and other medium weight fabrics or linen for a softer look.
You won't need to neaten any seams as they are all enclosed in the lining for a professional finish. The whole bag is stitched with straight machine stitching and there are no difficult zips to fit.
You will need to measure and draw 4 pattern pieces, all of which are simple rectangular shapes. Happy Sewing!
