Beautiful art, greetings cards, and trinkets crafted in the heart of Devon, UK.
Each May Day the Green Man can be seen
dancing around the village green.
In shadow of the maypole standing high,
he jigs and trots and waves to the sky.
With him returns the warmth and light
verdant hedgerows, a shorter night.
He is the consort of Gaia herself;
Mother of Earth, mortal, faerie and elf.

Please note that as computer screens differ from one to another, the colours you see may be slightly different to the actual colours on the item.
A symbol of life and Nature, the Green Man – other names include Jack-in-the-Green, Robin Hood, the Green Knight, and John Barleycorn – is the central figure in May Day celebrations throughout Northern and Central Europe.
The most common 'definition' of the Green Man is that of a Nature spirit, a symbol of our reliance on and union with Nature, and of the renewed cycle of growth each spring.
It's interesting to see what kind of, and how many, depictions of Green Man appear in churches and cathedrals throughout the UK and Europe. Each artist has their own interpretation(s) and I'm no exception! I've created several Green Man paintings over the years but as I was working with dip pen & ink I indulged myself a little by including all manner of fruit, flowers and foliage!
