Morrisonite Jasper a rare stone that has been labeled the “King of Jaspers” is of the porcelain jasper group and has been a sought after lapidary material since the 1950’s. It is a particularly attractive variety of jasper that is recognized by its unusual swirls and orb like patterns. It is composed of chalcedony with iron and aluminum that are mostly responsible for its pretty coloring. No two stones are ever exactly the same. It was first found in Malheur county, eastern Oregon by James Morrison who it was named for and who for a half century made his home in a canyon of the Owyhee river
