This listing is for the egg you can see in the photos, approximately 46.7 x 27.5 mm (1.84 x 1.08 inch). Each egg is sent in a velvet pouch with a print-out based on the description below and right, plus a small flexible ring which can be used to stand the egg up for display. A great gift for the person who has everything (except, of course, a dragon's egg).

Please note, these vary quite a bit in size - please check the dimensions before you buy.

I make these from borosilicate glass in my home studio by the sea in Pembrokeshire, melting and shaping in a gas/oxygen flame, then annealing many hours in a computer controlled electric kiln for strength and stability. Boro is harder to work than standard soda-lime glass, requiring more heat and more patience, but the finished pieces are stronger, with rich colours that shift and change according to the angle and intensity of the light. They love sunshine!

A rare sub-species of the famous Welsh dragon (y Ddraig Goch) is the Skomer Stormlizard, found only along the Pembrokeshire coast, chiefly on the islands of Skomer, Skokholm and Gateholm - though not Grassholm as they don't get along well with the gannets. In addition to its normal eggs, this dragon produces small, unfertilised, jewel-like eggs, apparently as playthings for its young. The adult dragons appear to confer little value on these (much preferring human made trinkets of gold and silver) so once the young have flown the nest the eggs are simply abandoned. They are collected by a team of highly trained choughs and sold to raise funds for dragon research and conservation work.
