Born in west London, raised in Ruislip and based in Derby since 1999, this versatile artist has tackled many issues (some difficult, taboo, secretive or humorous) in her work. With influences as varied as the Surrealists, Redon, Bourgeois, Calle, O’Keeffe and Polke, she is equally at home with photographic, conceptual, figurative or abstract work. She has produced large-scale vivid abstract images and projections, developed from music-inspired small wax originals.
She also uses chance forms arising from this fluid wax work to inspire further paintings and prints, though her other work addresses a variety of themes! Chrissy’s practice has developed into three main pathways: printmaking (which is her favourite medium), painting – mainly oils or acrylics on canvas (using mask, glaze, spray and drip techniques) and encaustic wax work.
