'Rock Pool Bowl', a unique decorative ceramic bowl with individually hand-sculpted mussels growing inside.

This artwork was hand sculpted from white stoneware clay, high fired for durability and adorned with delicate ceramic mussel shells with real gold lustre detail. The bowl stands on it's little tripod legs, also coated with real gold lustre. The beautiful shiny jade glaze compliments the mussel's hand painted gold detail and unglazed white ceramic surface.

The bowl can stand flat or at and angle to make an interesting display piece for your home, or could even be used as a trinket dish.

I am fascinated by under sea life and like the idea of creating functional ceramic pieces that are rendered dis-functional as they have been taken over by nature. Rather than being ready to eat, these mussels are growing and thriving on this bowl! The hand-sculpted mussels look realistic, although are fantastical with their white shells with gold edging - chosen to emphasise that small insignificant creatures are too special and wonderous.
