This ladder was stuck away at the back of someone's shed. I painted it cream, planning to use it to making a bookshelf (I have a gorgeous bookshelf made out of an old ladder in my studio!), but it sort of evolved in a different direction. My Mom in South Africa keeps me supplied with shweshwe fabric - I have a serious weakness for the stuff - and I thought the red/orange floral design would look good with the rich cream. It did. Then I started toying with the idea of chicken wire, and I spotted the fairy lights among the Christmas decs that were being packed away... it all kind of.... happened.
