This original piece of artwork is is one of my silk "canvasses". I paint on silk habutai, back with cotton and then use free machine embroidery to complete the image. The silk habutai is then mounted onto a plain silk dupion backgroud fabric (and a little more machine stitching added), which is then mounted like a canvas on stretchers. A harboard back seals everything in, hangers are added and then the entire piece (front and back) is treated with a fabric protector. This means your picture will only require an occasional light brushing to keep it in its original condition.

Pictures are sent in padded envelopes or packages, by courier.

I have my postage dates set to within 5 working days because I suffer from occasional bouts post-viral fatigue. However, I rarely suffer severe bouts these days and can usually post within one or two days. If your purchase is urgent, e.g. for a birthday, feel free to message me to check when it can be posted.

I love chickens and have often used them as inspiration for my work (including a popular range of my ceramics). They are self-contained and determined creatures and I hope I reflect this in my representations of them.

Colour is one of the main inspirations for my textiles work. Silk takes colour really well and the lustrous finish of the fabric is preserved with the paints I use. I use a variety of thread for the stitching - cotton or polyester mainly - because for me the important thing is the exact colour for each part of the design.

The silk dupion background is a rich rust colour and forms a border 4 - 4.5 cms deep around the silk-painted image.

The outside measurements of this picture are 30cms x 27cms x 2.5cms deep.
