This is an A4 (approx 210 x 297 mm) Giclee print of the original 'Kingfisher' layered papercut which was designed and hand cut by Gemma Esprey.

This is part of the 'Lacy Layers' collection of work.

The original was hand cut using just a scalpel on 8 layers of different coloured 160gsm paper.

Printed on beautiful Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper using archival quality inks that will last years without fading.

Protected in a cellophane sleeve and posted in a boarded envelope to arrive with you in pristine condition.

Please note that this print comes unmounted and unframed.

I've always loved drawing birds. In primary school, I was a member of the school's ornithology club and I remember a trip to the local reservoir when I saw a kingfisher. It has always stayed with me. They are truly beautiful birds.

This year I have been focusing more on drawing birds. Following on from my Robin and Gentoo penguin layered papercuts, I wanted to do something more colourful where I could incorporate more layers and a kingfisher really fit the bill. I spent a lot of time using different mediums (paint, colouring pencils, fibre pens and drawing inks) and deciding on the shape and angle of the drawing. I'm really happy with the result and love all the blues and how they fit together.
