'Dying' was shortlisted for 2014's Observer/Jonathan Cape short story competition, was a finalist for The John Ruskin Prize 2015, Recording Britain Now: Society, where the original artwork was sold. The first two pages have been exhibited at The Inking Woman exhibition at the Cartoon Museum, April to July 2017. It's A3 folded to A4 to make a 4 page story and is printed on good photocopy paper. The story takes the reader through 4 stages of the dying process of a 96 year old woman who somehow manages to make her family laugh through the poignancy of her situation.
I wrote this story when one of my sons told me to. I had kept saying I wanted to write a graphic story about my mother's dying process and told me to write it for the Observer competition.
