Sterling silver wire has been forged into this stunningly simple, yet effective brooch. This style of brooch has been favoured by the Ancient Celts of Britain and Ireland and are still in use today. Traditionally used to fasten cloaks and other clothing it is just as useful today on scarves and shawls or to add interest to knitwear

I've always been interested in the history of the British Isles and Penannular brooches have cropped up so often. They breached the divides between the social classes and now breach the divides of time, brining a little bit of history into out modern lives. After all, we still need a way to keep our shawls and scarves in place on cold days, now, though, it is more a matter of style than necessity
