This small bottle vase packs a visual punch with its dramatic cracked and split glaze. It was hand thrown on the wheel and when leather hard, the surface was scored with an incising tool and a dark slip was brushed on. After the bisc firing, a thick crackle glaze was applied and the piece gloss fired to around 1250 degrees C. Inside is a very light grey celadon glaze with some iron specking.
The piece stands just under 5 inches tall and approx three inches across the base. Carries Mark Smalley's personal symbol impressed to the underside. This vase should hold liquid and is suitable for displaying fresh flowers.
