Eleanor Purl presents ELEANOR'S WASSAIL!

Eleanor is a Cotswold x English Mule sheep living in the glorious Wiltshire countryside. She grew her fleece especially for you - and to keep herself warm, of course. I took her soft, shiny locks, dyed them and blended them with some silk on my drum carder to create this batt. It's 50g, 80% Eleanor's wool, 5% Scottish Blackface wool and 15% silk.

Green fleece encases nubby flecks of red wool and is shot through with pale green silk and some silk throwsters waste threads. The colourway reminds me very much of orchards, with the green of the leaves and the red apples nestling in the foliage. You could use it for feltmaking or spinning a luscious art yarn.

Eleanor Purl is an important member of our flock of sheep. She has about the best fleece in the flock, and I wanted to create a blend of fibre which would really showcase the quality of her wool. After she was sheared, I divided up her fleece and washed it, then dyed it a variety of solid colours. I then blended it with 15% silk and 5% of another sort of fleece on my drum carder.

Our flock has many friends, and this colourway was developed by one of them, Talis Kimberley the folk singer. I have named this batt in her honour, as we have sung wassailing songs together for several years now!
